No. Every feature, including Assist and local camera recording, is included with the hub. There is nothing to unlock later.
If it speaks Matter, Thread, Zigbee, HomeKit, Google Home or Alexa, it works with Aura. Setup takes about a minute per device.
Everything keeps working. Scenes, voice, automations and security all run on the hub itself. The internet is only used for remote access when you're away.
Audio is processed on the hub and never uploaded. You can review and delete anything Aura has learned from the app at any time.
One Aura covers most homes up to about 2,500 square feet. Larger homes or detached garages can add a Mini as a satellite.
